AMS(Absorbable Metal Stent)

The ideal stent provides ease of application, induces an appropriate neointima formation and disappears after the vessel has regained its physical and physiological functionality.
Magnesium, an essential element of which approx. 20 grams already exists in the body, has been the basis of an alloy that combines excellent biocompatibility with high mechanical strength.

Delivery

Absorbable Magnesium Metal Stents have been safely implanted in all patients in the first-in-man peripheral and coronary application. The IVUS image below demonstrates the perfect post procedural stent apposition.

Absorption

Both histological and morphometric assessment showed absorption with little inflammatory response in the porcine model. The stent is largely absorbed within approximately 60 days.

Neointimal response

The histological images below illustrate the appropriate neo-intimal response of the vessel towards implanted AMS (animal studies).
A significant reduction of the neointimal area by 54% was found compared to the stainless steel control (data on file by means of quantitative morphometry (p < 0.001).
